Obituary of Charles Alvin Burke

Charles A. Burke. 1919 -2009 of Cape May was born in Baltimore and raised along the Maryland western shore. After graduation from McDonogh's preparatory high school he enlisted in the US Navy during WWII where he served as chief petty officer aboard the destroyer escort, DE 133, USS Pillsbury and took part in the historic capture of the German submarine the U-505. After his discharge from the Navy Mr. Burke worked in New York City for the Winter piano company before accepting a posting with the IRS where he remained until his retirement in 1980. From 1980 until his death Charles pursued a career as a locksmith serving individuals and business in Cape May and the surrounding communities. Mr. Burke will be buried in the Cape May Co. Veterans Cemetery in Cape May Courthouse. Private services are planned. He is survived by his spouse; Donafaye, son; Gregory, daughter Sherri, and granddaughters Eschel Breedlove and Sarah Burke.
