Obituary of Marie D. Monahan

Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Maria Dolores Monahan (nee Broderick), was born on 1 January 1928 in Yonkers, NY, loving daughter to Maria & James R Broderick. Her early teenage years were spent with her brother Ray, on St. Simons Island, GA near a naval base, where her father was supporting the War. Back in NY she graduated from Yonkers HS, attended NYU, danced to Big Bands and swooned over Frank Sinatra. She also worked part-time in Macy`s Herald Square. There she met (the late) Francis J. Monahan, who had just returned from WWII, and captured her heart. They wed for a lifetime on 1 October 1949. Her life work began as devoted wife, nurturing, loving mother to 5 children and later to 8 grandchildren and to date 3 great-grandchildren. She raised her brood for 12 yrs in Queens, NY, 31 yrs in Parsippany, NJ and in 1995 retired happily with Frank in Cape May, NJ. Dolores is survived by many who loved her: Sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Monahan, Ill. Her children: Mary Ann (Juergen) Butzkies, Germany, Karen (Charlie) McCarty, CA, the late Susan (Steve) O`Donoghue, NJ, the late Frank Monahan Jr, NJ and Jim (Patti) Monahan NJ. Her niece Mary Beth (Chris) Hanson and nephew Jim Broderick. She loved dancing, reading, feeding the birds, playing cards, visiting Atlantic City and watching Jeopardy. But her greatest love and joy were her grand and great-grandchildren: Travis (Kelli), Erin, Chris, Kelsie, Tobias, Melissa, Megan, Conor, Aiden, Jaxin and Jack. All who had sat by her side to make her smile in the months shortly before her death. Dolores is remembered by family and friends alike as a strong-minded, caring and loving person. Anyone who entered her house was welcomed and always felt immediately at home.
